Slow Cooker Whole Chicken with Sage Butter & Onions

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted 60 mL
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh sage 30 mL
  • 2 tsp paprika 10 mL
  • 1 tsp each garlic powder, mustard powder, salt 5 mL
  • 1/2 tsp pepper 2 mL
  • 1 whole chicken 3 lb
  • 3 onions, quartered
  • 1/4 cup reduced sodium chicken broth 60 mL

Directions

  • Step 1

    Stir melted butter with sage, paprika, garlic powder, mustard powder, salt and pepper. Rub over chicken.

  • Step 2

    Place onions and broth in bottom of slow-cooker. Set chicken over top. Cook on high for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hr., or until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Serve chicken with onions.

Tip

Substitute sage with 2 tsp (10 mL) chopped fresh thyme.
