Pumpkin Spice Fudge Brownies

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg Compliments Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix 450 g
  • ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice 2 mL
  • ½ cup Compliments 100% Pure Pumpkin Purée 125 mL
  • 1 egg
  • your choice of topping, optional (see below)
  • Pick one of these delicious toppings to add:
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips and 4 oz (125 g) semi-sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped 250 mL
  • 1 cup whole pecans 250 mL
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows 250 mL
  • 1 cup small pretzels 250 mL
  • ½ cup dried cranberries 125 mL
  • ½ cup sweetened shredded coconut 125 mL
  • ½ cup broken pieces nut brittle 125 mL
  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds (pepitas) 125 mL

Directions

  • Step 1

    Grease bottom and sides of 8-in. (20-cm) square baking pan or dish with oil or shortening (for best results, use a metal baking pan). Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C) for dark-coloured or non-stick pan, or 350°F (180°C) for glass or metal pan.

  • Step 2

    Hack Note: Use only the packaged brownie mix, not added ingredients as called for on package.

  • Step 3

    In medium bowl, whisk dry brownie mix with pumpkin pie spice. Stir in pumpkin purée and egg. Mix until smooth (batter will be thick). Spread batter evenly in prepared pan. Sprinkle on choice of topping, if using.

  • Step 4

    Bake until toothpick inserted in centre comes out with a few moist crumbs clinging, 34 to 37 min. Remove pan to rack to cool. Just before serving, cut into squares.
