Seal of Approval: Sustainable Seafood at Sobeys
Sobeys cares about the environment and supports responsible seafood practices that are both sustainable and traceable. To help consumers make informed choices when shopping, we break down a few of the options available in-store.
Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)
The Marine Stewardship Council’s ecolabel guarantees the fish you’re buying has been sustainably sourced. The MSC is a global non-profit organization working to preserve the world’s oceans. Companies and organizations that carry the ecolabel on their products have chosen to do so voluntarily and are measured against MSC’s third-party-certified best practices guidelines. To learn more about the organization, visit msc.org.
Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)
The Best Aquaculture Practices symbol is awarded by The Global Aquaculture Alliance. You’ll find it on some of Sobeys’ private label seafood products. The BAP logo ensures that the seafood you’re buying comes from an environmentally responsible farm where animal welfare and traceability are guaranteed. Visit aquaculturecertification.org for more information about BAP.
